Former MP Professor Mostafiz Expelled from BNP in Kalapara

M. Nasir Uddin, Kalapara, Patuakhali:
Professor Mostafizur Rahman, a former Member of Parliament from Kalapara and a veteran leader of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), has been expelled from the party. Once a prominent figure in local politics, he also served as Upazila Chairman and President of the BNP’s Kalapara Upazila unit.

His expulsion was formally announced in an official press release signed by BNP Assistant Office Secretary Mohammad Monir Hossain, dated May 13, 2025. According to the statement, Professor Mostafiz was found to be involved in activities that directly contradicted the party’s constitution, ideals, and discipline. His recent move to join another political party prompted the BNP to take immediate disciplinary action, stripping him of primary membership and all associated responsibilities.

A Party Decision Rooted in Discipline:
Party insiders revealed that Professor Mostafiz’s decision to align himself with another political party violated BNP’s code of conduct. Under BNP’s constitution, such actions automatically result in the cancellation of party membership. The central leadership, after reviewing reports from both local and district levels, found sufficient grounds to take strong disciplinary measures.

“This expulsion reflects the party’s commitment to discipline and ideological integrity,” said a senior BNP leader from Patuakhali. “No one is above party rules. If someone chooses another path, the BNP has every right to uphold its own principles.”

Local Reaction in Kalapara:
Despite Professor Mostafiz’s longstanding involvement in Kalapara’s political scene, local reaction to the expulsion has been largely subdued. Many BNP supporters and leaders view the move as timely and necessary.

“There had been growing dissatisfaction among party members regarding his recent actions. This decision was expected,” said a local activist.

Sources indicate that Professor Mostafiz had previously faced allegations of violating party rules, and his shifting political stance had caused tension within the organization.

Message from the BNP Leadership
Through this decision, the BNP aims to send a clear message: loyalty to party ideals and discipline is non-negotiable. The expulsion of a senior figure like Professor Mostafiz is seen as an assertion of the party’s resolve to remain united and ideologically firm.
